Miriam Levine Obituary

Miriam Weiss Levine, was born February 29, 1924 in the Bronx, New York to Sadie Goldstein Weiss and Samuel Weiss.

She lived the first part of her life in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, where she graduated from Erasmus Hall High School and later from New York University with a business degree.

She met her future husband, Leonard Levine, in the neighborhood on Empire Blvd and married him in 1944. They continued to live on Empire Blvd, where they raised their first  child, Ronnie, and then moved to Lefferts Blvd after the birth of their second child, Jayne, and then moved to Belle Harbor, NY when their third child, David, was born. Both Miriam and Leonard worked in her family business, Weiss Brothers and Schwartz, a women's clothing store on the Lower East side, and later at Marthe Robet in Hempstead, NY.

Miriam was actively involved in her synagogue and Hadassah as a long time volunteer. At age of 58, she became a Bat Mitzvah with an adult BM group at West End Temple.  Miriam was very proud of her being a leap day baby and enjoyed the fact all her children and then grandchildren were ‘older’ than her.

Miriam’s mother was one of 4 sisters and the family was a matriarchy.  After the older generation passed on, Miriam became the head of the family.

After retirement, Miriam and Len moved south to Boynton Beach, FL when there was still mostly orange groves and farms. In Boynton, Miriam enjoyed her card games, needlepointing,  playing scrabble, beading flower arrangements, decorating pottery, line dancing and shopping for bargains.

In 2006, Len passed away and Miriam continued to live on her own until the age of 93 when she moved into a Delray Beach Assisted Living facility where she continued socializing with new friends  and enjoying the amenities of the facility.  In 2022, when she could no longer manage on her own, she moved to an assisted living memory unit in the Philadelphia area where she was close to family. Recently, after Miriam celebrated her 100th birthday she moved to a memory unit in a nursing home in Troy NY. She was very lucky to have kids and grandkids who cared for her over all her many years.

Miriam is survived by her children, Ronnie (Michael z”l)  Zuckerman, Jayne (Michael) Shiner and David Levine, her grandchildren Hope (Jeffrey) Goodfriend, Seth (Erika) Zuckerman, Jason Zuckerman, Rachel (Bart) Sicolo, Jessica (Zeke) Tayler, Garett (Bethany) Shiner, and Emilie (George) Grombacher and great grandchildren Shifra and Noah Zuckerman, Aleeza Reich and Leo Sicolo, Isaiah, Ellie and Gideon Tayler, Morgan and Jesse Shiner and James, Jack and  Josephine Grombacher and her brother Emanuel Weiss.

Contributions in memory of Miriam can be made to Alzheimers Assn, Congregation Ohav Shalom, Albany NY, Community Hospice of Rens Co or a charity of one’s choice.
