Anitta Goldsmith Burg Obituary

Albany - Anitta Goldsmith Burg died peacefully on October 22, 2023 at her home in Loudonville New York.

Born in Vienna on June 18, 1929, she emigrated to Palestine in 1939.  In 1955 she came to the States with her husband Henry Goldsmith and their son Michael.

Settling in Forest Hills, New York, the family welcomed three daughters.  When Henry died in 1970, Anitta joined the vanguard of women working in Manhattan, all the while running her home with clock like precision so that her kids could stay safe and cozy.

In 1976 she married Klaus Burg, and upon retirement they settled in Stephentown, New York.  There she owned an antique shop, ran her own real estate business, wrote for the local paper and became involved in the Stephentown Historical Society.

She loved baking, cooking, sewing, knitting, dancing and gardening, but mostly she loved children and her family. It was her love of children and gardening that sustained her following the death of husband Klaus and daughter Debra in 2001.  She became a CASA volunteer, helping to protect the interests of children in court, and created a beautiful garden that flourished with flowers and vegetables.

Blessed to connect with George Imperato in 2004, they shared wonderful times in Florida, Loudonville, and around the world.  When son Michael came East to face end stage Lou Gehrig’s Disease, both George and Anitta tended to him with unimaginable love and care until Michael’s death in 2009.

Anitta was predeceased by her granddaughter Melissa Mark in August 2018 and by George on October 3, 2023.

She is survived by her sister Temi Peretz; daughter Edna Goldsmith of Troy. New York and her husband Tim Fleming; daughter Lynn Goldsmith of Newton, Massachusetts and her husband Peter Mark; step-daughter Evelyn Burg of Manhattan;  grandson Austen Goldsmith and his wife Kate; granddaughter Jillian McComiskey and her husband Niall; grandsons Zachary Mark, Ian Mark and Allison Mark, as well as by her great grandchildren, Luca and Nico Goldsmith and Claire and Maverick McComiskey. She will also be missed by many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held graveside at Beth Emeth Cemetery, 58 Turner Lane in Loudonville, on Wednesday October 25th at 11:00 am. Shiva will be held at Anitta’s house, 29 Greyledge Dr. in Loudonville on Wednesday night from 5:00 – 8:00 pm.
