East Greenbush- Anthony (Sonny) Elacqua passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025 at the age of 91, surrounded by his loving family and caregivers. Born in Albany February 3, 1934 to the late James and Mary (Cozzolino) Elacqua. Sonny was a dedicated family man, supportive loyal friend and a respected member of his community. He was a communicate of Historic St. Mary’s church in Albany. He sat on and chaired the facilities and finance committees for many years. He provided his professional experience, guidance and assistance for many decades.
He married his high school sweetheart Janet Harper on June 20, 1953. Married 72 years they shared 5 children who were his pride and joy. He had a long illustrious career as the owner of multiple construction companies starting in the 1950’s with Cozzolino Construction and was involved in various projects throughout the Capital Region and beyond. Sonny worked well into is 80’s as an owner of Serkil LLC.
Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 72 years Janet (Harper) Elacqua, his 5 children Mary (Pietro), James(Melissa), Anne(Jeffrey), Elizabeth(Thomas (T.J), Amy (Henry), 7 grandchildren Anthony((A.J)(Lindsay)), Caitlin, Jeffrey, Kyle (Teresa), Ryan, Samuel, Henry, 3 great grandchildren Mia, Noah and Stella. His 4th great grandchild Madelyn will make her arrival on June 19th. Brother of John (Marlene) and the late Roseann Elacqua and several nieces and nephews.
His legacy is one of integrity, resilience and love, teaching his family to embrace life with positivity and faith and to confront life’s challenges with courage and perseverance. His gentle spirit and ever steady presence will be sorely missed.
The family would like to thank the phenomenal caregivers that have been with Sonny and Janet: Lorinda (Lin), Rosa, Paula, Kate and Tracey.
Calling hours will be Saturday June 14th at Historic St. Mary’s 10 Lodge Street Albany, NY from 8:30 - 10:30 with a mass of Christian burial at 10:30. Interment at Calvary Cemetery Glemont, NY.
