Barbara Gutierrez, age 87, of Albany, NY, passed away on December 19, 2025.

Barbara was born in Port Jefferson, NY, to Abraham Schecht and Ester Friedberg. She graduated from Marymount Manhattan College with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and then from CUNY Graduate Center with a Masters Degree in Psychology. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco E. Gutierrez; her parents, Abraham and Ester; and her nephew, Eric Pokorny.

For several decades spanning the 1960s through 1990s, Barbara lived in the Lower East Side of Manhattan and originally worked at Willoughbys Camera store, then as a keypunch operator, and finally as a legal secretary, before retiring. She moved to Mineola in Long Island, NY in 2000, and a year later ended up being one of many who witnessed the September 11th terrorist attack at the World Trade Center. She recently moved to Albany in 2025 to be closer to her family.  She is survived by her two sons, Edmund and Alan, two sisters, Carol and Bonnie, niece Laura, nephew Mitch, granddaughter Emily, grandson Adam, and her great granddaughter Ilana.

Funeral services will be held graveside at Independent Benevolent Society, 260 Fuller Rd in Albany, NY.  At the request of the family, funeral services will be private.
