Barbara J. Rowen (née Feldman) of Niskayuna, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Friday August 6th, 2021 at the age of 83. Barbara grew up in Hempstead, LI and studied education at CW Post College before marrying husband Bill in 1960. The couple then moved to Schenectady to pursue Bill’s career at General Electric and raise their family. Barbara worked in the Niskayuna School District for 18 years, mainly at the Rosendale Elementary School. Barbara was also an active member of the local Jewish community, where she was universally known as “Bubbi”. Barbara was a long-time devoted member of Congregation Agudat Achim, where in the early years was a dedicated catering volunteer, member of Sisterhood and helped pioneer the K’Ton Ton Nursery School in the early 1960s. Barbara’s death was preceded by her husband of 59 years, Bill.

She is survived by her four children, Mindy Sorbo (Anthony) of Schenectady, Julie Fafard (Don Soubie) of Sykesville, MD, Jackie Rowen of Niskayuna, and Erik Rowen (Stacey) of Alpharetta, GA; as well as grandchildren Devorah Sorbo (Connor White), Henry Fafard, Sam Sorbo, Nessa Fafard, Dylan Rowen, Eli Feret, Sydney Rowen, and Sophie Rowen; brother Gerald Feldman (Marsha) and many nieces and nephews who she loved knitting for.

Services at the Agudat Achim Cemetery, Schermerhorn Street in Rotterdam, New York on Monday, August 9, 2021 at 1:00pm

Donations in her memory can be made to Congregation Agudat Achim’s Safety and Security Fund, 2117 Union Street Schenectady, NY 12309. The period of mourning will be observed at the Rowen residence, 2141 Orchard Park Drive in Niskayuna, NY on Monday at 5:15pm in person only, Tuesday at 7:15pm in person and on zoom and Wednesday on zoom only at 7:15pm.Prior to the commencement of the period of mourning friends are invited to visit with the family commencing at 4pm on Monday at the residence
