Barbara Ruth Ungerman (Bluma Rachel bat Shlomo Zalman V'Ze'eva) was born on October 19, 1937, to Samuel Solomon & Viola Gertrude (nee Lipton) Schwartzberg in New York City. At age 7, she and her family moved to Kingston, NY. She earned a Bachelors in Science from Albany Teachers College (now University at Albany, SUNY). Barbara married Hesh Ungerman on January 25, 1959, who she met as a student at Albany Teachers College, to whom she was married until her death. They raised 6 children together, along with 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She held two master's degrees in Math Education and Computer Science from SUNY Albany. She established the Computer Science department at the College of Saint Rose. For over 20 years, she was a Research Scientist for the New York State Department of Health in the Bureau of Toxic Substances. At the New York State Department of Health, she produced graphs by hand, and produced math mapping of cancer incidences throughout the state. She was immensely dedicated to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Barbara will be greatly missed by her family.
Funeral:
The funeral will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, July 22, at 2 pm at Congregation Beth Abraham-Jacob (380 Whitehall Road), followed by internment at Albany Hebrew Tailors Cemetery (1626 Western Avenue).
Shiva:
Shiva will be observed at the home of Rob & Ilana Kovach at the following schedule:
Wednesday, July 22:
No visiting hours
Thursday (Tisha B'Av), July 23:
Visiting Hours: 4-6 pm (services will be at CBAJ)
Friday, July 24:
Morning services: 8:00 am
Visiting hours: Following morning services until 10 am, 1-3 pm.
Saturday, July 25 (Shabbat): Shiva is not observed on Shabbat.
Sunday, July 26:
Morning services: 9:00 am
Evening services: 6:40 pm
Visiting hours: 9:00 am until 8 pm, EXCEPT FOR: 12-1 pm, 5-6 pm
Monday, July 27:
Morning services: 8:00 am
Evening services: 6:40 pm
Visiting hours: 8:45-10 am, 2-4 pm, 7:15-8:15 pm
Tuesday, July 28:
Morning services: 8:00 am, brief visitation to follow, Shiva concludes.
