Albany – Bertold E. Weinberg, 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday September 21, 2024 at The Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center. Born in Hanover, Germany on July 21, 1926 he is the son of the late Max and Kate Weinberg.

Bert was a graduate of Albany High School and earned his Bachelors Degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and would go on to obtain his Masters Degree from SUNY Albany. Following his graduation from Albany, he would go on to serve our country honorably during WWII and eventually retiring at the rank of Colonel. Bert worked as a Civil Engineer for the N.Y.S. Dormitory Authority for more than 20 years until his retirement. He served on the Bethlehem School Board for 10 years and also served on the board of The United Jewish Federation and Congregation Beth Emeth. Bert loved to travel with his wife Irma, visiting Europe and making it to 49 States in America.

Bert is survived by his son, Daniel (Susan) Weinberg; his son-in-law, Johann Waplinger; his brother, Gerhard Weinberg; his grandchildren, Francis (Megan) Waplinger, Ashley (Patrick) Besch, Andrea (J.P.) Berdick, Nathan (Rachel) Weinberg, Kim (Victor) Quartucio and Carli (Jack) Hallam; and his great-grandchildren, Valentina Besch, Ava Berdick, Harrison Quartucio, Kenny Hallam and Hailey Hallam.

Bert was predeceased by his loving wife; Irma Weinberg; his cherished daughter, Wendy Waplinger; and his sister Lore Kaplan.

Bert was a Milestone Blood Donor, donating more than 130 pints of blood and many more before they starting keeping records. To honor Bert’s selfless acts of kindness through the years, the family asks that if you wish to make memorial contributions consider donating blood in Bert’s memory.

Funeral services for Bert will be held graveside at Beth Emeth Cemetery, 58 Turner Lane in Loudonville, on Monday September 23rd at 3:00 pm.
