Bethesda, MD - Beverly Ann Fischer Weinstein, 89, passed away on June 16, 2019. Beverly grew up with four siblings in an apartment on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, raised by her mother Yetta Fischer following the passing of her father Simon Fischer when she was two years old. She attended Hunter College High School, and received a Bachelor’s degree from City College of New York and a Masters of Social Work from Columbia University, She spent most of her social work career in the New York public school system, ultimately serving as a supervisor. In addition, she ran a successful private family therapy practice. Beverly was dedicated to her Jewish faith. She lived two years in Israel and spoke excellent Hebrew and pretty good Yiddish, and played an active role in the fight for women’s equal participation in Conservative Judaism. She traveled extensively with her husband Irwin, exploring (among other places) China, Cuba, Denmark, Spain, Costa Rica, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Sweden, Egypt, Jordan, Ireland and Germany.
Beverly loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Elise and Eric Caplan of Bethesda, Md.; son and daughter-in-law David Weinstein and Ilyse Levine of Glenmont, NY; and grandchildren Yael, Benjamin, Eden, Naomi and Maia. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 54 years, Irwin Weinstein.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send donations to HIAS (formerly the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society).
Funeral services for Beverly will be held on Wednesday June 18th at 11:00 am at The Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Ave. in Albany. Burial will follow at the Ohav Shalom Cemetery on Church Rd. in Guilderland.
