David Cohen Obituary

David A. Cohen, age 80, died at St. Peter’s hospital on January 12, 2021. The cause was complications from COVID-19. Born July 14, 1940 in Albany, NY, to Meyer (Red) and Frances Cohen, he attended Albany public schools and graduated from Norwich University in 1963. David served in the Army and later the National Guard. He married the love of his life, Joni (Krantman) Cohen in June 1963.

A lifelong resident of Albany and Delmar, he owned Lektro-Kleen, Inc. and later American Flooring Specialists working until he was recently hospitalized.

David was a member of Congregation Ohav Shalom, Knights of Pythias, the Jewish War Veterans, and was active in many professional organizations.

David  will long be remembered for his twinkling blue eyes, his longstanding friendships, his Wednesday night card games, and his zest for life.  For nearly 40 years Aruba was his happy place that he shared with his wife and family and where he made lifelong friendships.

Survivors include his beloved wife and best friend, Joni Cohen; his children Elise (Marc) Hiller; Michael (Sharon) Cohen, and Jeffrey Cohen; his adored grandsons Zachary Hiller and Elliott Hiller.

Due to Covid restrictions services will be private on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the Ohav Shalom Cemetery. While we cannot have a traditional Shiva, we invite family and friends to participate with us via Zoom.  Information for Shiva will be made available.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Krantman Fund at Congregation Ohav Shalom or a charity of your choice.

Special thanks to the nurses, doctors, and staff at St. Peter’s hospital whose generosity of spirit, kindness, and compassion are unparalleled.
