2 Trees or Condolences have been sent in support of David’s family — View on Tribute Wall
During the night of October 15, 2025, David Levy passed away due to natural causes at Collar City Rehabilitation where he was living out his final days. He was 80 years old and still doing his best to bring light and joy to those around him even towards his end.
David grew up in Brooklyn surrounded by a loving family and went to college at the University of Arizona, where he met Elaine who he would marry and together they would raise two children. He would then survive his first bout with cancer, ocular melanoma, and then get a job inspecting ship deliveries at the docks in NYC. He would keep his passion for boats and stay in the shipping industry as a clerk for the rest of his career. He divorced Elaine in the early 90’s and would eventually move in with his children in upstate NY until separating from them and living in an elderly home until unable to care for himself.
He loved cooking, watching sports, and reading about boats or the civil war. David always enjoyed trying out new recipes and would share them with anyone who he met, and he especially loved complex dishes like paella. His passion for books detailing the lives of those both in and around the US civil war was so deep that it got him into mailing lists with colleges for people doing research so he could read even the latest papers.
David is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Gladys Levy and his sister Debra Levy-McClure. He is survived by his brother Paul Levy, his children Isadora Tang and Torielle Schalna, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held graveside at Beth Emeth Cemetery, 58 Turner Lane in Ludonville on Sunday October 19th at 3:00 pm.
