Della R. Gilman, 82, who was a founding resident at Glen Eddy Independent Living in Schenectady, New York, died Friday evening, December 31, 2021 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.

Born in New Haven, Connecticut and raised in Great Neck, New York, she earned a teaching degree at Lesley College. In 1967, with her beloved husband, Ira Gilman, she moved to Schenectady, where they raised their family.  Together, they were longtime members of Congregation Gates of Heaven and served on the board of directors for the Schenectady Light Opera Company.  
Della was married to Ira Gilman until his passing in 2003.  She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Gilman and his wife, Alysa of Bedford, Massachusetts and her daughter, Jodi Hebert and her husband, John of Rensselaer, New York. She cherished her grandchildren, Jack, Bret and Ari Hebert and Adam and Kaitlyn Gilman. 

A shiva call will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, January 5th at 7:00pm.  A memorial service will be held at Schenectady’s Temple Gates of Heaven in the Spring.
Those wishing to remember Della in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the Schenectady Light Opera Company, Congregation Gates of Heaven or the Alzheimer's Association.
