Donald Herkowits, 98 years young, died Sunday, August 1, 2021. Donald was born August 10, 1922, to Samuel and Rae Keller Herkowits in Albany, NY. He graduated from Albany High School in 1941. He served in the United States Army in Europe during World War II, receiving the Bronze Star for heroism in action. Donald graduated from Rider College in Trenton, NJ, in 1947. He married Miriam Fradin August 22, 1948, and they resided in Albany, where Donald was a CPA for local accounting firms, lastly Jaffee and Herkowits, CPA’s, and Teal, Becker and Chiaramonte, CPA’s. The family were members of Congregation Ohav Shalom and later, Congregation Beth Emeth.
Donald was predeceased by his wife Miriam (10/27/81), and his sister, Martha. Donald is survived by his partner, Catherine Gonzalez, and his daughters Dianne Herkowits (Vito Rinaldo) of Putnam Valley, NY, and Gail (Curtis) Powell of Atlanta, GA. He was a much-loved grandpa to Gillian Rinaldo, Gavin Rinaldo, Carson (Dawn) Powell, Kenton (Francesca) Powell, Lily (Brian) Korcsmaros, and Serena Gonzalez, twin great-grandchildren Halston and Perrin Powell, and many nieces and nephews.
Services and interment will be held at the Beth Emeth Cemetery, 58 Turner Lane, Loudonville, NY. on Friday, August 6, 2021 at 1pm Masks will be required In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
