Dr. David N. Hornick Obituary

Dr. David Neal Hornick, 83, of Niskayuna, passed away peacefully at his home on November 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Claremont, New Hampshire, to Harry and Klara Hornick, David graduated from Cornell University (’65), earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania (’69), and later received an MPH from the University at Albany. His 53-year career began with a home-care practice in Philadelphia in 1970, followed by a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine. After working as an ER attending, he founded Homedical Associates in the Capital District in 1989.

Home care was his passion. He was an early pioneer in universal design and telemedicine, often saying that “the biggest technology he used was his imagination.” Known for his compassion, humor, and love of teaching, he inspired countless colleagues, students, and patients. His vegetable garden was legendary, and his front-lawn giant pumpkins were once the talk of the neighborhood - until they violated town code. He loved music of all kinds, anything related to space exploration, sustainable living and anything chocolate.

David married his wife of nearly 40 years, Dr. Roberta Miller, in 1986. Together they raised two daughters, and ran their innovative home-care practice.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta; his daughters, Sara (Luke) and Karli (Craig); two grandchildren, Rosie and Trey; and nephews Galaxy (Era),Matthew, Daniel, grand nieces and nephews and his dog Raffil. He was predeceased by his brother, Dean Hornick.

His family would like to thank his wonderful caregiver Eugenia Luna

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 14 at The Terrace at Waters Edge in Schenectady, New York. The family will gather from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. to share food, refreshments, and the many cherished memories and stories of David’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany, Community Hospice of Albany, or Eddy Visiting Nurse & Rehab.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and patients.
