Dr. Harvey Alpart Obituary

Harvey Alpart, age 81, died peacefully on October 7, 2022, in Niskayuna, New York. Born June 10, 1941 in Albany, he was the beloved son of the late Anne and Morris Alpart. He was an alumnus of Albany High School, The University of Vermont, and the Georgetown University School of Dentistry. While in dental school, he was blessed to meet and marry Paula Hoffman, with whom he would share 56 happy years.

Upon completing school, he joined the United States Army and, commissioned a Captain, spent two years at Fort Benning, Georgia, where Andy was born. Following his return to Albany, son Brian soon completed the family.

In Albany, Harvey spent forty years building a dental practice. That he was able to retain patients and staff for decades speaks to the professionalism, diligence, and compassion that he brought to the office every day. As a longtime member of the Third District Dental Society, he kept his skills up to date and maintained connections to colleagues that he would always value.

Outside of work, Harvey was constantly active, with scuba diving, racquetball, skiing, hiking, boating, and running (including three completions of the New York Marathon) connecting him to the friends and family with whom he shared his contagious enthusiasm. Quieter pursuits included interviewing aspiring Georgetown students, home renovations, building his own TV set, reading, cooking, and making sure everyone benefitted from his expertise in fine wine. He greatly enjoyed travel, whether on dive trips to Maine, family adventures to California, London, and Paris, or trips with Paula and friends to Italy and the French countryside. Wherever he went, the people and the food were the highlights. And waiting back home was often a canine companion, whether the Peppy and Patty of his childhood, or the Quigley, Ginger, and Cutter he’d roughhouse with later on.

After retirement, he and Paula relocated to their dream home in Vermont, where Harvey reveled in being a full-time outdoorsman during his years of service as a Stratton Mountain Guide. He took this volunteer position seriously, relishing meeting visitors from all over the

world and helping them enjoy the beauty of a winter’s ski day just as much as he did.

Of course, his greatest enthusiasm was lavished upon his family. He was a ceaselessly loving husband, a committed dad, and a joyous and proud grandpa. Predeceased by his Parents and

by his Sister Elaine Scher, he leaves his Wife Paula Alpart, his Son Andy Alpart (Cindy Chan), his Son Brian

Alpart, his Grandchildren Maxine and Simon Alpart, and many treasured cousins, nieces, and nephews to miss him.

Those who wish to join in a celebration of Harvey’s life may join his family on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 2:00pm at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road, Albany, NY 12208.
