Albany - Dr. James P. Thalmann, 75, died peacefully surrounded by his family at St. Peter's Hospital on September 30th, 2025.

James is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dr. Jacqueline Bashkoff; his son Jason (Ariana) , and his daughters Jamie (Vincent) and Jessica (James); his grandchildren Nathan, Noah, Oliver, Lily, Vincent, Henry, and Benjamin; his sister Barbara Tanner; and his nephews Michael and Christopher. James was predeceased by his Father, James R. Thalmann, his mother Charmian D. Thalmann, and his brothers in law Albert Tanner and Barry Bashkoff. 

James grew up in Audubon, New Jersey and graduated with a B.A. from Rutgers University, an M.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson University and Ph.D from the University of Kansas. He raised his family in Delmar, New York and practiced Psychology in Albany for 37 years alongside his wife where they each had private practices. 

James was an avid tennis player throughout his life. He received a scholarship for tennis where he earned an All-American award and had a very successful collegiate tennis career. He continued playing tennis for the remainder of his life on several USTA adult tennis leagues. James also loved dogs. He was very fond of his two dogs Silkie and Mitzie that grew up with his children. James will be remembered for his sense of humor, kind heart and his devotion to his friends and family.

Funeral services for James will be held on Friday October 3rd at 11:00 am at The Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Ave. in Albany. Burial will follow at Beth Emeth Cemetery in Loudonville.
