Schenectady – Dr. Stuart Yorkshire
Stuart Yorkshire, 99, former resident of Coburg Village in Rexford, NY, passed away at Glendale Home in Scotia, NY on Thursday, July 15, 2021.
Born on July 9, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY to Clement and Celia Yorkshire, he was a graduate of Ohio State University. He received his degree as a Doctor of Optometry in 1948. He practiced in Schenectady for 30 years, and was co-founder of Vision Care Associates.
Dr. Yorkshire was a veteran of World War II and served in the medical unit of the 103rd Infantry Division. He received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious conduct in November of 1949.
He married Marilyn Cohen on March 22, 1953, and they raised their three children in Niskayuna, NY before retiring to Boynton Beach, FL in 1988, where they enjoyed golf, tennis, cruises, traveling, and playing bridge. Marilyn predeceased Stuart after 57 years of marriage in 2010. He was also predeceased by his sister, Norma Lampert, of Camarillo, CA.
Survivors include his daughter Beth (Eric) Rappaport of Clifton Park, NY and his sons Gary (Maria) Yorkshire of Scotia, NY, and Bruce Yorkshire of Tamarac, FL. He is also survived by his beloved and adored three grandchildren, Joshua Yorkshire, Marissa Yorkshire (Rachel), and Sara Rappaport.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Temple Israel Cemetery, 1626 Western Ave. in Guilderland. (Please enter the cemetery through the gate next to Hana Japanese Steakhouse.) Friends and family are welcome to attend.
