Elaine Rosen Obituary

Elaine Lippman Rosen passed peacefully at Albany Medical Center June 27, 2021 (17 Tamuz 5781) surrounded by her loving dear family. Elaine was born in Albany, April 21, 1929, daughter of Evelyn Coplon (Troy) and William Lippman (Albany) owner of Lippman's Pharmacy, New Scotland Ave. Elaine attended public schools, graduating from Albany High in 1947, continued on to earn her degree in Retail Business Management from NYS College of Arts and Sciences, Utica, in 1949. She was employed at B. Altman Co., New York City.

On September 11, 1949, Elaine married Hy Rosen of Albany, who was employed as the Times Union Editorial Cartoonist.

Years later, while still raising her three children, Elaine resumed her studies, first earning a second Associate's degree at HVCC, then transferring to SUNY Albany, where she majored in Psychology and English, and graduated in 1971 with her Bachelor's degree. Elaine found an opportunity to address her passion to serve others over the next 10 years employed first at AMCH Dept. of Psychiatry where she used Art Therapy to facilitate patient rehabilitation. She subsequently was employed with the  NYS Dept of Mental Hygiene serving in the CDPC Program Evaluation unit interviewing patients regarding their community after-care where she enjoyed working with  Dr. Alan Kraft. Elaine moved on to serving as a Training Coordinator with the AMC's Continuing Education office, managing lecture series for the medical house staff.

Once Elaine retired, she and Hy traveled to England, France, Greece, Israel, the Far East and enjoyed many cruises and visits to the Caribbean. Many of these happy times were shared with Elaine's precious sister Sandy and her late husband Paul Wallis.  During an extended visit to Israel, Elaine volunteered at the Emergency Dept. of Jerusalem's Hadassah Med Ctr where she returned home excited to share how she participated in the care of  patients with acute traumas.

In 1982, Elaine established a local chapter of the national American Friends of Magen David Adom (The Red Shield of David) an emergency response service.  In 2019 she received an award recognizing her financial support of an MDA Life Support Ambulance for Kibbutz Be'eri, Israel.

Elaine and Hy were married 61 years and because Hy was a founding member of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists, they enjoyed years of cartoonists conventions across the USA. In 1972, Hy was AAEC President and managed the convention in Washington, DC a watershed year in American history.

Elaine was predeceased by her "amazing Hy," and is survived by her dear sister Sandra Wallis, Sarasota, FL, her beloved children Eve, Benjamin and Ed (Margo) and her dear dear grandchildren Arielle, Claire and Joshua.

Elaine was grateful for her good friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of Alb Med D 3 N floor and the ER for their hard work and compassion.

Funeral services will take place at 3:00pm Wednesday, June 30 at Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Ave. Albany followed by burial at Temple Israel Cemetery, Western Ave. Guilderland.

Visiting hours and Shiva will be observed at the Rosen residence on Wednesday and Thursday 5:00pm to 8:00pm and Friday 2:00pm to 5:00pm. Visitors are asked to observe all appropriate Covid protocols including vaccinations and masks.
