Elizabeth "Betty" Nathan Obituary

Slingerlands - Elizabeth Stein Nathan, age 79, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, October 21, 2024, at her home. Born on October 27, 1944, she was the youngest of two daughters of Sam and Lucy (Mock) Stein. Her father was a Vice President at Capital City Container, while her mother ran the household. Elizabeth graduated from Bethlehem Central High School and Mt. Ida College.

On September 10, 1967, she married William J. Nathan, beginning a lifelong partnership. Elizabeth was passionate about many things—she loved cooking and sharing meals with her family, caring for her beloved pets (Charcoal, Tiger, Jeannie; Cabbit, Abby, Callie; and Skyler), knitting with friends, and watching the birds at her feeders. She also took great pride in preserving her historic family home.

Elizabeth is survived by her devoted husband, Bill, her sister Ellen (John) Newell of Lincoln, MA, her daughter Janet (Robert) Wright of Delmar, her son Joseph Nathan of Albany, and her cherished grandchildren Samantha Wright and Jeffrey Wright of Delmar.

The family extends deep gratitude to her caregivers, especially Dakota Cole and Kim Crayon, as well as her hospice case manager, Erin Nichols, for their exceptional compassion, patience, and care.

A funeral service will be held at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road in Albany, on Friday, October 25th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Beth Emeth Cemetery in Loudonville. Shiva services will take place following the burial on Friday until 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m at her home in Slingerlands.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Elizabeth’s memory to the Pine Hollow Arboretum, Community Hospice, or the American Cancer Society.
