Eugene Z. Grenz, 75, of Delmar, N.Y., died on October 31, 2021. He was the husband of Sherry Janowitz Grenz. They shared 54 years of marriage together.
Born in the Bronx, New York, he was the son of Philip and Rose Grenz. He attended Bronx High School of Science, Yeshiva University and Baylor Law School.
He was an Assistant Attorney General of New York State for 20 years before opening his own firm where he practiced criminal defense for 25 years. He served several terms as a member of the Committee on Character and Fitness for the Third Judicial District of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, and taught multiple years as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Russell Sage. Gene was also a former president of Temple Israel where he was a member for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife Sherry; his children Philip Grenz, Brooke Anne Goldberg (Allen), Hope Amsterdamer (Yishai), and Sloan Grenz; and his grandchildren Skyler Goldberg, Jonas Goldberg, Maayan Amsterdamer, Lexi Goldberg, and Agam Amsterdamer.
The graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 2nd at 1:30 PM in New Montefiore Cemetery; 1180 Wellwood Ave.; West Babylon, New York
The traditional period of mourning will be observed in the home that Mr. Grenz long shared with his wife at 96 McGuffey Lane Delmar, NY. A minyan service will be held Tuesday evening at 8:30pm and on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings at 8:00am and again at 5:30pm each of those evenings. The period of mourning will continue on Monday, November 8th at 8:00am In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Yeshiva University or the Lewy Body Dementia Resource Center
