Eugene Shpirt, a figure of generosity, intellect, and humor, passed away on May 10, 2026, in New York City. Born September 30, 1938, in Moscow, Russia, Eugene lived a full and happy life with his beloved wife Marina, whom he married on November 30, 1957.
After leaving the USSR with his wife and daughter in 1974, Eugene ended up in Albany, New York, becoming the first Soviet Jews to settle here. He spent his career as a Research Scientist, most of it with the New York State Department of Health.
An avid skier and tennis player, Eugene found enjoyment in the thrill of the slopes and the strategy of the court. He also loved listening to jazz, often losing himself in the vibrant rhythms and melodies of the genre. Above all else, what mattered most to Eugene was living life to the fullest. Eugene is survived by his wife Marina and daughter Julia.
Friends are invited to share your fondest memories and upload photos to his memorial page https://my.gather.app/remember/eugene-shpirt. In doing so, we can continue to celebrate the life of this remarkable man and keep his memory alive in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor Eugene by making a donation to a charity of your choice.
