Albany – Florence Katz, 106, passed away peacefully on Saturday December 24, 2022, at The Eddy Village Green at Beverwyck. Born in Albany on October 1, 1916, she is the daughter of the late Nathan and Rose (Goldschlag) Hyman.
Florence was a graduate of Albany High School and Albany Business College. She would go on to work as a secretary for The New York State Assembly and the United States Army. Florence would end her working career working side by side with her late husband Sidney at their family business, Marlan Decorators.
Florence enjoyed baking, knitting, playing bridge and mahjongg. She will always be remembered by her family for her loving and caring nature. Florence was a member of Congregation Gates of Heaven in Schenectady for many years.
Florence is survived by her children, Marilyn (David) Brock and Alan (Bette) Katz; her beloved grandchildren, Lauren Brock, Joel (Lindsay) Brock, Jason (Phieng) Katz and Andrew Katz; and great-grandchildren, Julia Brown and Sarah Brock. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Florence was predeceased by her husband Sidney H. Katz and her sisters, Evelyn (Hy) Pearson, Yvette (Sidney) Benson and Shirley Auerbach.
Funeral services for Florence will be held at Congregation Gates of Heaven, 852 Ashmore Avenue in Schenectady on Friday December 30th, 2022, at 11:00am. Interment will follow the service in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery on Watt Street in Schenectady. All are welcome to attend.
