Gwendolyn Deiber, 96, of Schenectady, NY died unexpectedly on Monday December 12. Gwen was born October 15, 1926, in Lewiston, ME. She was predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Jack Deiber, her son Robert Deiber, her parents Samuel and Sarah Wise, her sisters Francis Bigman, Nettie Shapiro, Rose Novick and brother Julius Wise.
Gwen is survived by her daughters Annie Deiber and Debbie Gatoff, her grandchildren Jennifer Calandra (Nino), Jason Gatoff (Miriam), Sarah Schoultz (John), Jake Deiber, and Courtney Deiber and her great grandchildren Samantha and Gabriel Calandra and Jack and Bridget Schoultz. Gwen was an active member of her synagogue, Congregation Beth Israel in Schenectady including being a past president of the synagogue Sisterhood. Gwen retired from the SUNY Albany Library and enjoyed playing Mah Jong with her friends.
Graveside services will be held at the Beth Israel Cemetery Abbottsford Road Rotterdam, NY on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at 1:00pm. Following the service of interment, friends are welcome to join the family for a Shiva meal at Congregation Beth Israel 2195 Eastern Parkway in Schenectady. The Shiva will continue on Saturday and Sunday evenings from 6-8pm at the home of Debbie Gatoff , 1220 Baker Avenue in Schenectady In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Gwen in a special way may make a memorial donation to Congregation Beth Israel, 2195 Eastern Parkway Schenectady, NY 12309
