Harry Jacob Kushner, 87, born in Buffalo, New York on July 20,1937, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on January 23, 2025 in Niskayuna, New York. Married for over 66 years, Harry was above all else dedicated to his family - a devoted husband to his wife, Helene, caring father and adoring grandfather. Harry was a loving brother to Phil and uncle to Phil’s children.
Harry was a hard-working, self-made individual. Harry graduated from Suny Buffalo in 1960 with a degree in Physical Education. He started out working for pharmaceuticals companies, and after a few years, went out on his own setting up shop as “The Business Broker,” brokering sales of many businesses in the capital region.
Harry or “Pop” as his grandchildren called him, was an avid skier, basketball player, biker, and hiker. He passed on his love for skiing to his children, who in turn passed that passion onto their children. Harry’s grandchildren loved to tease him that while he may have started the family skiing tradition, they were way better skiers than he. Harry agreed!
Harry was also an Eagle Scout, and a longstanding member of the Knights of Pythias.
Harry was a man who forged his own path, a path paved with sweat and heart. Harry was blunt but kind. He cared little for appearances, making it a point to never wear a tie (except for the weddings of his kids and grandson!). He didn’t spend money on himself but was unquestionably generous with others. Harry left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Harry is survived by his wife, Helene (Litman); children: Laurie Kushner, Shari Kushner and Usher Winslett, and Bret Kushner and Ellie Rossiter; grandchildren: Ethan and Molly Rothschild, Sara Rothschild, Casey Winslett, Jamie Winslett, Max Kushner, and Luca Kushner; his brother Phil Kushner; and his nieces and nephews: Liat and Brian Richman, Leore Kushner and Erin Coufal, and Ayal Kushner, as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly. The family would like to thank Blessing for his years of loving care to Harry.
A funeral service will be held on January 27, 2025, at 11:00am at Temple Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road, Albany, NY. Burial will follow at The Beth Emeth Cemetery in Loudonville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Susan Kushner Torah Study Fund at Temple Beth Emeth honoring his late sister-in-law, Susan Kushner.
We find comfort in knowing that Dad's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
