Helen Beer

Albany – Helen Beer, 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 11, 2023 at The Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center. Born in Essen Germany, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Sarah Krancenblum.

At the age of 12, her parents put her and her brother on a train to Holland for a chance to survive.  After Germany invaded Holland, she was transported to England and then Scotland and lived through the war there.  Some of her experiences were recorded by the USC Shoah Foundation. At the age of 21, she arrived in the United States where she would meet and marry her beloved husband Norman later that year. They would go on to raise two daughters and were married for 53 years until his passing in 2001.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Beer Nolan; her grandchildren, Tracie (Aaron) Endelson and Jeff (Kristen) Plotzker; her great-grandchildren, Everest, Violet and Lydia; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.   In addition to her husband, Helen was predeceased by her daughter, Shelley Beer Endelson and her brother, Eddie Weedon.

Those wishing to remember Helen in a special way can make memorial contributions in her name to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York, or the charity of their choice.

The family wishes to thank Daughters of Sarah for their loving care of a very kind, gentle woman. Funeral services were held at Beth Moses Cemetery.
