Obituary

Hartford, CT – Helene P. Haven, 85, passed away peacefully at her residence on September 6, 2023 with her loving family by her side. Born in Albany, NY, she is the daughter of the late Abraham and Anne (Weiner) Goldblatt. Helene was the wife of Dr. Edmond Haven for 64 years until his passing in 2022.

Helene was a graduate of the Albany Girl’s Academy High School and earned her Bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University. She enjoyed teaching and would often serve as a substitute teacher at The Hebrew Academy. Helene was a collector of crystal critters, a lover of word games, and a passionate mahjongg enthusiast, playing in tournaments wherever she found them. She loved to travel, and especially enjoyed cruises with her husband. But what Helene loved most of all was spending time with her beloved family.

Helene is survived by her daughters, Lisa (Shaun) Nicholson and Melinda (Alan) Kaufmann; her grandchildren, Marissa Kaufmann and Branden Kaufmann; and her brother, Kenneth (Ellen) Goldblatt. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Those wishing to remember Helene in a special way can make memorial contributions in her name to: Sharsheret, a national non-profit organization that improves the lives of Jewish women and families living with or at increased genetic risk for cancer: https://sharsheret.org/
