Colonie - Helene L. Sutton passed away on July 11, 2024. Helene was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 5, 1929 to Herman and Ruth Sussman. Shortly after the birth of her younger brother, Stanley, her family moved to Albany, NY. She graduated from Albany public schools in 1946, and from the Mildred Elley Business School the following year.

Helene worked in an Albany law office for a brief time before moving to Gloversville, NY to start a family with her new husband, Merwin S. Greene. They lovingly raised three sons - Warren, Michael & David. In 1977, Helene moved back to Albany and worked in a number of positions including a decade at the NYS Department of State. However, she especially loved interacting with people and greatly enjoyed her years of employment in retail businesses finally retiring in 2007 at the age of 78.

In 1985, Helene married Dr. Harvey S. Sutton. For over 30 years together they enjoyed the visual arts, musical performances, fine food, travel, and the company of family and friends. Harvey remained Helene’s devoted partner until his passing in 2023 at the age of 105.

Helene is survived by her loving sons Warren (Jeanne), Michael (Denise), and David (Hazel); grandsons Stephen (Julie), Jacob (Mackensie), Zachary (Katy), and Sam; great grandsons Adam, Mason, Colin, and Danny; great granddaughter Eleanor; nephews Bruce and Barry (Maria) Sussman. Helene was predeceased by her brother, Dr. Stanley Sussman.

Helene’s family would like to thank the very empathetic and talented staff at the Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Albany for the exceptional care that they provided her in the final months of her life.

Graveside services will be held for Helene at the Independent Benevolent Society Cemetery (260 Fuller Road, Albany) on Sunday, July 14th at 10:00 am.
