Herbert Jurist

Herbert Jurist, 87 passed away on April 8, 2023 after a brief illness. Born to Janet and Samuel Jurist and a lifelong resident of Freeport, Long Island.

He was a devoted husband to Linda Jurist for 64 years; father and champion for his three children: Michael Jurist (Susan), Elizabeth Vinci (Steve) and Amy Klein; Poppy to Julia Maser (Jeff), Jenna Klein, Marielle Jurist, Nicole Jurist and Sarah Vinci.  He was blessed by the love of his brother, David Jurist (Alice) and many friends including his childhood friend, Henry Uman.

A lifelong educator, he worked for decades at John Adams High School teaching history, at Pace University and then teaching ESL on Long Island. A lover of all things nature, Jones Beach was one of his favorite places on earth.

Funeral services will be held at B’nai Israel in Freeport on Monday, April 10th at 11am.  Gatherings will be held in New Jersey on Tuesday, April 11th and in Albany, New York on Thursday, April 13th from 4-6pm
