Herman Mendel Ungerman Obituary
The beloved Herman Mendel Ungerman died peacefully at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing facility on May 24th, 2026. Just last week, he joyfully celebrated his 95th birthday with family
and friends. Herm (Mendel) will be remembered for the lasting impact he made in our community and the legacy he passed on to his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He modeled a life based on principle, integrity, and a selfless regard for others. His work ethic was unmatched, and he achieved the respect of all who knew him. He founded Herm Ungerman Inc., an electrical contracting business that made him a household name. His natural business acumen and dedication enabled Herm to build a successful life of his own terms. For Herm, that was building a loving family and helping those around him. Herm was consistently philanthropic and he became a pillar of the Capital Region. Forever a cornerstone of his Jewish community, he passionately educated others about the dangerous consequences of anti-semitism. He took responsibility for our future and did all that he could to make positive change.
Mendel was predeceased by his loving wife, Devera, after close to 63 years of marriage. His devotion to Deb and the family they created together was built on love, trust, and patience. We take solace in knowing that he is listening for her whistle so he can find her in the spiritual realm. He is survived by his daughters, Susan Ungerman (Allan Greenberg), Michelle Ungerman Sanders (Danny Sanders). He kvelled over his great-grand babies and was so proud of all his seven grandchildren. He was grandfather of Elizabeth Patsio (Chris), Lauren Bobersky (Rob Chase), Zachary Bobersky (Kelsey Dorado Bobersky), David Bobersky, Benjamin Sanders, Jacob Sanders (Kylie Jungles), and Rozara Sanders (Nate Liebert); great-grandfather of Thea Vera Liebert, Maxwell Gerard Patsio, and Margot Sophia Patsio (and with two more great-grandchildren on the way); brother of Congregation Beth Abraham-Jacob members Harry (Hesh) Ungerman (Barbara).
He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Florence Eisenberg, his son-in-law Gerard Bobersky, and his niece Phyllis Eisenberg z''l.
In his later years, he shared that he lived a productive life, had no regrets, and always did what he thought was right. Knowing Herm was a gift and his appreciation for every day of life was inspirational. He can rest knowing that his life had meaning, he had the love and respect of his family, and the gratitude of his community. May his memory be a blessing.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to Congregation Beth Abraham Jacob, The Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York, and Amidah Albany through The Jewish Federation.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday May 26th at Congregation Beth Abraham Jacob and burial followed at Hebrew Tailor's Cemetery.
The Funeral service will be livestreamed
