Irwin Martin Lapides, husband of Chaya Ita Lapides, passed away on November 7, 2020, in the comfort of his home. Irwin was known affectionately by his friends and family as “Yitzchak.” He battled many health issues over the years. Besides his wife, he leaves behind a daughter Syma Lapides of Troy, NY; a daughter Adena Falk and son-in-law Ben Falk; a step daughter, Lori Smith and two beloved grandchildren, Aleza and Avi Falk of Longmeadow, MA. Irwin was predeceased by his parents William H. and Bessie Lapides. His siblings included Blanche, Sylvia, Alvin, Jerome, and Aaron Lapides. Irwin leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends he considered family near and far. Irwin was born in Troy, NY, on February 19, 1941. He graduated Troy High School in 1958 and graduated Hudson Valley Community College (1958-1960). He became a licensed plumber and started Active Plumbing and Heating (1964-1986). He was a member of the Knights of Pythias and was a proud Mason.  In 1986, he purchased Comfort Mart Distributors. Irwin was a proud member of the New York National Guard and an active board member at Beth Tephila in Troy, NY. Irwin was also a member of Temple Beth El Troy, NY and Beth Abraham Synagogue in Albany, NY. In 2003, Irwin moved to Passaic, NJ, where he became a beloved member of Congregation Ahavas Israel. “Yitz” was known by members young and old. He was a legendary cook, renowned for his generosity and kindness. He will also be remembered for his unparalleled hospitality and willingness to welcome all to his home. He loved all animals including goats, but his canine companion Annie was his best friend. He loved Israel and studying Torah. His faith carried him through his last difficult days. He will be missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Congregation Ahavas Israel at 181 Van Houten Avenue, Passaic, NJ 07055. Alternatively, donations can be made to The Wounded Warriors, an organization that was very important to him.
