Latham – Irwin Margolis, 88, passed peacefully at home on November 7, 2024. Born in Brooklyn on November 29, 1935, he was the loving husband of Rosalie Margolis for 64 years. While growing up he participated in many sports such as basketball, softball and street hockey. As an adult he became an avid fan of The New York Rangers, New York Giants and New York Mets. He had a great sense of humor like his cousin Mel Brooks, the producer. He graduated from college with an Associate’s Degree in Business and then proceeded to join the United States Army to fulfill his two-year obligation.
Shortly after he obtained a job with a paper recycling company Ash Trading Corporation in Manhattan. He bought and sold bales of waste paper to be recycled into paper towels, toilet paper and other paper products. He continued working for many years, and when Sol Ash passed, he took advantage of the opportunity to become a partner with Alvin Kirsch. He moved to Latham so he could take a more active role with the business. When Alvin retired Irwin became President of the company. He worked for many more years until his retirement.
In addition to his wife, Irwin is survived by his loving daughters, Francine Margolis of Washington State and Gail (Karl) Doering of Loudonville. He was predeceased by his son, Todd Margolis of Latham. He also leaves his devoted grandchildren, Kayla (Jake) Sadowski, Eric Doering, Alex Doering, Tyler Lebovic and Harmony Lebovic.
Funeral services for Irwin will be held on Sunday November 10th at 11:00 am at Congregation Gates of Heaven, 852 Ashmore Ave. in Schenectady. Burial will follow at Gates of Heaven Cemetery.
