Boynton Beach - Jack Newman, 96, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2022, with his loving family by his side. Born in Troy on August 25, 1925, he was the son of the late Lester and Ada Newman.
Jack was a graduate of Troy High School and would go on to proudly serve in The United States Army Acorn Division during WWII. He fought in the battle of the Bulge and was awarded The Purple Heart after being injured in combat. Jack was also awarded The Legion of Honor from the French Government for his bravery and courage during the war. Following the war, Jack returned home and married the love of his life, Irma (Levine) Newman on February 25, 1951. Their union would last for 71 years.
Jack was the owner of McMartin-White Clothing Store in Troy and also the co-owner of Plaza Discount Wines and Liquors in Troy. Later in life, he would also become a Licensed Real Estate Agent in Lake Worth Florida. Jack and Irma resided in Lake Worth and Boynton Beach Florida for nearly 40 years. While living in Florida he served on the Residence Council at Discovery Village as treasurer for many years and enjoyed gardening, golf, bridge and poker.
Jack was an avid hunter and golfer throughout his life. He was a long-time member of Van Schaick Island Country Club in Cohoes, NY as well as Burden Lake Country Club and various clubs in Florida. During his golf career Jack tallied 9 holes-in-one!
Jack is survived by his wife of 71 years, Irma Levine Newman; his children, Michael R. (Kristine) Newman, Eric J. (Karen) Newman and Mark L. (Gretchen) Newman; his grandchildren, Jonathan ( Jessica) Jenna ( Christopher), Joshua, Sarah, Samantha ( Sean) and Benjamin; and his great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Quinlan, Jack, Caden and Calleigh. In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his brother, Stanley Newman
Funeral services for Jack will be held on Sunday May 29th at 11:00 am at The Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Ave. in Albany with Rabbi Robert Kasman officiating. Burial with full military honors will be held on Tuesday May 31st at 10:00 am at The Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. in Schuylerville. Those wising to remember Jack in a special way may make a memorial contribution to a local hospice of your choice or your favorite charity
The period of mourning will be observed on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings, May 29,30 and 31st at the ome of Judy Kaufman, 4017 Chaucer Place in Slingerlands, New York
