Jacqueline Paula Freedman, born February 6, 1940 in Poughkeepsie, NY, daughter of Frances and Harold Scheer, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2022. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Irving Freedman. Her greatest happiness was her family: daughters Michele Schaefer of Newtonville, Elaine Freedman of El Salvador, Aimee Freedman of Florida, and her son-in-law Kevin Schaefer, whom she considered to be her own son. She adored her five granddaughters: Jordan Schaefer Freeman (Dylan), Reid Schaefer, Kennedy Schaefer, Skylar Schaefer, and Maycen Schaefer. She is also survived by her grandson, Camilo Alvarenga Freedman. Spending time with Michele and her family made her so happy.
She received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the State University at Albany and began her career as an assistant in the Washington, D.C. office of California Representative Cecil R. King. She returned to Albany where she devoted her career to fighting for a quality education for all children. Her career culminated as the Executive Director of The Conference of Big Five School Districts. One of her proudest accomplishments was organizing the community effort to fund and develop the present Colonie Town Library. Jackie was an accomplished quilter who enjoyed gifting personalized quilts to special people in her life.
Jackie’s happy place was her home on Brant Lake. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Temple Gates of Heaven, 852 Ashmore Avenue, Schenectady, NY 12309.
