Troy – James F. Renehan, 72, passed away peacefully on Sunday August 4, 2024 at Albany Medical Center. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Cornelius and Elizabeth (Egan) Renehan.
Jim grew up in South Troy, then moved to Lansingburgh and also spent his summers on the family camp on Saratoga Lake. He was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School. Jim spent over 45 years as a chef in many local restaurants and also owned and operated 5 establishments. He was known for his famous prime rib with twice baked potatoes.
Jim would enjoy watching all sports, especially golf and his beloved Yankees and Giants. He also spent many summer days cheering the ponies at Saratoga. He even took a dabble in horse ownership with the “3 Percent Gang”. Anyone that saw Jimmy at the track knew he was betting his favorite 2-7. Jim also enjoyed playing roulette, taking a chance in any kind of sports pools, and playing poker. Jim was an active member of the Watervliet Elks and the C.R.A.B Club Garrison of Troy.
Those wishing to remember Jim in a special way are encouraged go and donate blood. For months, he relied on these selfless donations and always wanted to be able to give back.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, his wife Linda Renehan and his brother Joseph Renehan. He is survived by his daughter, Tracey (Paul) Lilkas and his son, Scott Renehan; and his sisters, Joan Border, Marion Istria, Elizabeth “Betty” Armstrong, Margaret “Peggy” Renehan and Katheleen Borden; his sister in law, Patricia Renehan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours for Jim will be held on Wednesday August 7th from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at The Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Rd. in Latham. The funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday August 8th at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy.
