Jeffery B. Marks Obituary

Albany - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jeffery Marks, who died at the age of 80. Born in Albany, NY, Jeffery was a long-time resident of the area, though his life journey took him across the country and even to the West Central Pacific Island of Kwajalein. His story was one of resilience, family, and a deep love for writing.

Jeffery’s early years were shaped by his family's move to Tucson, Arizona, to care for his health. As his health improved, they returned to Albany in the early 1950s to be near loved ones. During his senior year at Albany High School, his family moved to Syracuse, NY, where he graduated from Nottingham High School in June 1962.

Jeffery went on to attend Ithaca College before joining the Air Force, where he was stationed at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington. While serving his country, he was a staff writer for the base newspaper, and it was there that his love for writing blossomed. His work as a prolific writer spanned both his military career and beyond, and he later had articles published in local and national outlets. After his honorable discharge, Jeffery returned to Syracuse and later accepted a two-year contract from the United States Military in Kwajalein Island in the West Central Pacific Ocean, where he continued his work as a researcher and staff writer.

Upon returning to the U.S., Jeffery settled back in Albany, NY, where he found his calling in the local advertising industry, writing radio jingles and TV commercials. Over the years, he explored many other careers, including teaching in Westbury, NY, and working as a videographer. He also authored a non-fiction book that he proudly self-published in his later years.

Throughout his life, Jeffery found joy in hiking, bicycling, music, learning to play the piano and, above all, writing. Even as his vision declined in his later years, Jeffery’s spirit remained strong, and he was deeply grateful for the support of his family.

He was always surrounded by the love of his family, particularly his cousins, Dr. Gerald Hausler and his wife Karen Hausler, and their children: Andy Hausler, Dr. Theodore Hausler, and David Hausler. They were his steadfast support system, always helping with shopping, taking him out for meals, and including him in family celebrations.

Jeffery is survived by his brother, Bruce Marks, and his wife, Susan Marks, of West Hartford, CT, and his nephew, Stephen Marks, and his wife, Julie Marks, and their children, Grant and Lily Marks, of Fairfield, CT. He also leaves behind his many first cousins: Margo and Barry Zusman, Linda and Jerry Zusman, Bette Stracher, Judy and Hal Tanzman, Deborah and Bill Keller, and Gary and Edna Zusman. Jeffery was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Celia (Zusman) Marks

Jeffery will be deeply missed by all his family and friends. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and in the words he so loved to write.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Jewish Family Services of Northeastern New York, 184 Washington Avenue ext., Albany, NY 12203.

Funeral services for Jeffrey will be held graveside on Friday February 28th at 1:00 pm at Ohav Shalom Cemetery, 519 Church Rd. in Guilderland.
