Joan Mansfield- Hazaz Obituary

Joan Mansfield- Hazaz passed away peacefully on December 31, 2022 after a very long battle with metastatic breast cancer.

“ Joni” was born on June 24, 1958 to Stuart and Rosalind Mansfield, and was raised in Bayside, New York. She graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a Bachelor’s Degree and proceeded to work in the field of Fundraising.  She found great pride in her success in this career, some of her accomplishments being: The March of Dimes, National Jewish Allergy and Asthma, American Diabetes Association (while pregnant with her firstborn son Michael), and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation (whilst battling cancer).

In November, 1999 she met the love of her life, Michael Hazaz , at a Hot Tuna concert.  By the end of the night their magical journey took flight.  They married August 23, 2001 and have been together ever since.  The couple attended their last concert together on November 5, 2022, appropriately named “ The Last Waltz.”

Michael and Joni have two sons Michael and Robert. Joni was bound and determined to see her boys grow up and graduate high school despite her illness.  Proudly, her two sons are both presently attending universities.

Joni loved live music and attended hundreds of shows all over North America and Europe.  Her favorite band was “The Grateful Dead”.  She was able to bring her boys to their first Grateful Dead show in Mexico, and their awestruck faces said it all.  She was known around the tour as “Joni Begonias”. The Wise Man once said: “Once in a while you can get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right”, “Love that’s real will Not Fade Away”.

Joni is survived by her beloved husband Michael, her boys Michael and Robert, her cats Tony and Johnny, and many special friends and family

Joni will be dearly missed. Her spark and wit touched us all. So many roads to ease her soul. Fare thee well my love…

In lieu of flowers, please take a nice walk in the woods and enjoy the beauty as she would.  Donations can be made to the Community Hospice at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany, NY.
