Judith Ruthberg Obituary

Judith Anne Cohen Ruthberg, M.D., of Niskayuna, NY, passed away peacefully at her home in Lincoln Park, NJ, on July 7, 2025. She was 76.

Born in the Bronx, NY, on November 26, 1948, Judith moved with her family to Miami, Florida. Exceptionally bright from a young age, she began her college education at just 16, attending the University of Miami. After earning her undergraduate degree, she was awarded a full scholarship to Columbia University, where she received her master’s in social work. She began her career as a social worker at Mercy Hospital in Miami, but soon recognized that she had the potential to make an even greater impact. Confident in her abilities, she chose to pursue medicine and returned to the University of Miami for medical school.

While in medical school, Judith met her future husband and lifelong partner, Bradford Ruthberg. The two completed their residencies in radiology at Albany Medical Center Hospital and went on to dedicate over three decades to women’s imaging at Bellevue/Ellis Women’s Hospital, where they served as co-directors of the department. Their shared commitment to compassionate, expert care left a lasting mark on the community they served.

Judith was more than a gifted physician—she was a loving wife, devoted mother, adoring Bubbie, and a treasured friend. Known for her generosity, warmth, and sharp intellect, she touched countless lives with her wisdom, humor, and open heart. She was an avid traveler and a deeply involved member of Agudat Achim Synagogue in Niskayuna.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Bradford Ruthberg; her daughter, Dr. Kara Schubert; her grandchildren, Lillian and Jackson Schubert; and her son-in-law, Dr. Paul Schubert. She was predeceased by her father, Julius Cohen; her mother, Sarah Karasik Cohen; and her brother, Karl Cohen.

Judith's life was defined by strength, intellect, compassion, and love. Her legacy will live on through all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Funeral services for Judith will be held graveside Thursday July 10th at 11:00 am at The West Ridgelawn Cemetery in the King Solomon Memorial Park Section, 550 Dwasline Rd. Clifton, NJ 07012. All guests will gather at the cemetery office and then process together to the graveside.

The family will be receiving guests at the Ruthberg residence in Niskayuna on Saturday July 12th and Sunday July 13th beginning at 6:00 pm

Those wishing to remember Judith in a special way can make memorial contributions in her name to Planned Parenthood or The Holocaust Museum in Miami.
