Julia Blinn Eddy, 77, of Niskayuna, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2026, surrounded by her family at home.
Julia was born in Burlington, Vermont, to Dr. Winston Eddy and Jean Elizabeth (Smith) Eddy. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont, studying psychology and religion. It was in Burlington that Julia met her husband, Dr. Dan Mayer. Together, they built a life centered on family, community, and Jewish values, raising their three children, whom Julia adored.
Julia’s life’s work was her family and her community. She was deeply devoted to her children and grandchildren and took immense joy in being a mother and grandmother. She was also generous with her time and energy, often helping others quietly and without seeking recognition.
As a convert to Judaism, Julia embraced Jewish life with a deep and abiding commitment. Her faith and Jewish values were central to her life, and she was an active member of the community. She was involved in the Sisterhood at Beth Israel and was a frequent attendee of Lunch and Learn programs. She loved opening her home to others, hosting holidays and special occasions and creating gatherings where family and friends could come together. She was also a great decorator and had a particular appreciation for beautiful and historic homes, which she enjoyed visiting. Her creativity, warmth, generosity, and attention to detail were evident in everything she did. Those who knew Julia will remember the care she put into making others feel welcome, valued, and loved.
Julia is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Dr. Dan Mayer; her children, Memphis (Jay) Moskowitz, Gilah (Eric) Moses, and Noah (Tao) Mayer; her ten grandchildren, Meira (Israel), Chaim, Ayelet, Talya, Elianna, Rina, Josie, Lucy, Charlie, and Frankie; and her brothers, Frederick (Robin) Eddy, Winston (Norma Klein) Eddy, and Jonathan (Julia Acer) Eddy. She was predeceased by her parents.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, at Congregation Agudat Achim, 2117 Union Street, Niskayuna. Burial will follow at the Congregation Agudat Achim Cemetery in Rotterdam.
The family will observe shiva on Monday, October 5 from 6 pm - 9 pm, and Tuesday, October 6 from 4pm - 9 pm at the home of Gilah Moses, 1067 Lamplighter Road, Niskayuna, and on Wednesday, October 7 from 4 pm to 9 pm the home of Dan Mayer, Van Antwerp Village, 1365 Van Antwerp Road, Apartment K114.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Julia’s memory may be made to The Alzheimer's Association or Community Hospice.
May her memory be a blessing.
