Kathleen A. Gertzberg, 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Kathleen was the daughter of the late Andrew and Marie Matthews. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose greatest joy was the love and happiness she shared with her family.

Kathleen was a master quilter, and her beautiful handmade quilts became treasured keepsakes for her loved ones. Each stitch reflected the care, patience, and attention to detail that defined who she was. She took great pride in her home and loved creating a warm and welcoming place for family and friends. Kathleen also enjoyed cooking and baking, always finding joy in preparing meals and treats to share with those she loved. Kathleen also had a deep love for English Springer Spaniels, which were a constant source of companionship in the Gertzberg family home over the years.

Known for her humility, tremendous patience, and perfectionist nature, Kathleen gave her time and talents generously. She was a dedicated partner in her husband’s dental practice, New Baltimore Family Dentistry, where she handled everything from office responsibilities to finances and helped make the practice a success.

Kathleen is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Dr. Marvin A. Gertzberg; her children, Joseph (Laura Dotterer) Gertzberg, Michael (Penny) Gertzberg, Jamie Gertzberg, and Marisa Wiedl; her cherished grandchildren, Devyn Gertzberg, Jacob Gertzberg, Benjamin Gertzberg, Alivia Gertzberg, Madelaine Wiedl, Daniel Wiedl, and Eli Wiedl: her dear sister-like friend, Sandi Zarch: and her canine companion, Clare. In addition to her parents, Kathleen was predeceased by her brother, James Matthews.
