Larry Sugarman Obituary

Clifton Park - Larry Sugarman of Clifton Park, age 84, died on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at The Daughters of Sarah Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Albany, following complications from Parkinson's Disease and a recent stroke.

Larry was the husband of Brenda Sugarman of Clifton Park, and the father of Susan Moses (husband Evan Moses), and grandfather of Ilena Moses of Sherman Oaks, California.

He was born on November 17, 1938 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Hyman and Sadie Sugarman. He was predeceased by his brother Bernard "Bernie" Sugarman, and his sister Ruth Sugarman.

Larry's greatest source of pride was his family, especially his granddaughter who called him every Sunday to make him laugh with a "joke of the week." Larry grew up in Bayonne, NJ and attended Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland, and graduated from Seton Hall University in New Jersey. He served in the United States Naval Reserve stationed in the Mediterranean. He worked as bursar, cook and baker while serving for two years on the U.S.S. Saratoga. While on a visit to Vatican City, he was even blessed by the Pope. While growing up in Bayonne, Larry was active in the Boy Scouts, and President of the Bayonne High School Key Club. After graduating from college, Larry pursued a career in retail. His first job was as a manager at the Bamberger's in Paramus, New Jersey, where he met his wife Brenda who worked part time in the stationery department.  Larry and Brenda were married for 56 years, and enjoyed travelling together. They enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean and Europe. They celebrated their 50th anniversary with their daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter on a cruise to Alaska and their last trip together was a trip to Israel to celebrate their granddaughter's Bat Mitzvah at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, Israel.
