Delmar – Lois F. Portnick, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday November 26, 2022 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center. Born in Albany, she is the daughter of the late Meyer and Evelyn (Silverman) Pogoda.
Lois was a graduate of Albany High School and The College of Saint Rose. She would go on to work for The New York State Assembly, The Hudson Valley Girl Scout Council, Bryant and Stratton and would retire from The New York State Comptroller’s Office.
Lois was an artist at heart and an animal lover. She was a literacy volunteer and taught English as a second language. Lois was a member of The League of Women Voters and The Jewish Feminist Brunch.
Those wishing to remember Lois in a special way can make memorial contributions in her name to, The Evelyn Pogoda Shabbat Endowment Fund at Temple Israel or to The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.
Lois is survived by her children, Andrea Portnick of Albany and Brian (Deborah McDonald) Portnick of Seattle, WA; her brother, Dennis (Doris) Pogoda; her sister, Ellen (Thomas) McHugh; and her sister-in-law, Joyce Pogoda. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Lois was predeceased by her brother, Ralph Pogoda.
Funeral services for Lois will be held on Thursday December 1st at 11:00 am at Temple Israel Cemetery, 1620 Western Ave. in Guilderland.
The period of mourning will be held at the residence of Andrea Portnick, 91 Crescent Drive in Albany on Thursday from 1pm – 8pm, Friday from 11am – 5pm, Saturday from 5pm – 8 pm and Sunday from 11am – 5pm.
