Niskayuna – Louise “Lois” Bluestein, 99, passed away peacefully at her residence on August 9, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Born in 1924 she is the daughter of the late Joseph and Tillie Wasserman. Lois was married to Ben Bluestein for 59 years until his passing in 2006. She was also predeceased by her brothers Ernest and Robert Wasserman.
Lois was born in Schenectady and lived there her entire life. She was very active in Congregation Gates of Heaven, receiving the Distinguished Service award in 2009. In addition to teaching Sunday School, she has served on multiple boards and was president of the Sisterhood. Lois also volunteered at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home and was the president of their Auxiliary. Professionally she worked as a buyer for Myers Children shop in downtown Schenectady.
Lois is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Richard and Kathy Bluestein; her daughters, Myra Darlow and Eileen Bluestein; her grandchildren, Paul Bluestein, Michael and Gina Bluestein, Adam and Marina Darlow and Eric and Julie Darlow and her great-grandchildren, Riley, Sophie and Ellian.
Those wishing to remember Lois in a special way can make memorial contributions in her name to Congregation Gates of Heaven or Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held graveside at Workman’s Circle Cemetery, 100 Mt Stuart Rd. in Rotterdam, on Sunday August 13th at 12:00 pm and will be officiated by Rabbi Matt Cutler.
