Lucy Joan Aaronson
Colonie, NY – Lucy (Zeldin) Aaronson, 83, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025.

Born and raised in the Bronx, Lucy was the beloved daughter of Abraham and Bessie (Janofsky) Zeldin. She was the devoted wife of 66 years to Norman Aaronson, son of Emanuel (“Manny”) and Mae (Sobel) Aaronson. Lucy and Norman first met as teenagers, and their love story began with their marriage in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, in January 1959.

In 1968, Lucy and Norman settled in the Capital District, where Lucy worked for many years with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. After retiring, she enjoyed time spent with Norman, sewing, cooking, and caring for her beloved grandchildren.

Lucy’s life was defined by her deep love for animals and her devotion to her family. She is survived by her three children: Robert Aaronson (Diane), Andrew Aaronson (Stacy), and Elaine Aaronson Luizzi (Michael). She was a cherished grandmother to Rachael Aaronson Summers (Jared) and their children Owen, Aaron, and Emelia; Bryce Aaronson (Ellie King) and their daughter; and Matthew Luizzi and Dr. Alex Luizzi (Morgan). She will be fondly remembered by family, friends, and neighbors.

Lucy was predeceased by her brother, Harris Zeldin, and his wife, and Norman’s sister, Bernice Zeldin of Toms River, NJ.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to St. Peter’s Health Partners and the Community Hospice Foundation for their compassionate care in Lucy’s final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lucy’s memory to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society or to the Community Hospice Foundation.
