Mendal Szlamowicz, 72 of Schenectady, New York died on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Mendal was born in Germany and was the son of the late Hersh and Sala Farbiash Szlamowicz. He resided in Israel from 1950-1961 and came to the United States in 1961. Mendal was a 1967 graduate of Columbia High School in East Greenbush and received his Bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University in 1971. He had been employed by the United States Postal Service for 38 years retiring in 2018. He was a member of Temple Israel in Albany and was an avid golfer. He was a sports fan and had a love for the New York Giants and the New York Yankees.
Mendal was married to Amy Lefkowitz Szlamowicz until her passing in 1996.
Survivors include a son, David Szlamowicz and his wife Jennifer of Waterford, New York and 2 daughters, Lisa Knupp and her husband Seth of Niskayuna, New York and Sara Steinback and her husband Adam of Colonie. New York. Brother of Moe Szlamowicz of Colonie. Grandfather of Amy and Samuel Szlamowicz, Jacob and Ella Knupp and Olivia Steinback.
Services at the Temple Israel Cemetery,1626 Western Avenue Guilderland, NY on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 1:00pm. Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to attend the service.
