Latham - Michele Freedman Schaefer, born January 10, 1964, in Albany, N.Y., daughter of Irving and Jacqueline (Scheer) Freedman, passed away after a brief illness on June 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Michele leaves behind a family that meant everything to her: her devoted husband, Kevin; her beloved children, Jordan Schaefer Freeman (Dylan), Reid, Kennedy, Skylar, and Maycen Schaefer; her sisters, Elaine and Aimee Freedman; her nephew, Camilo Alvarenga Freedman (Jennifer); and many treasured friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.
Michele was a graduate of Emma Willard School and continued her education at Russell Sage College before earning a master’s degree in education from the University at Albany. She was a gifted special educator who touched the lives of many students and families throughout her career. Michele believed deeply in the dignity and potential of every child.
While Michele found fulfillment in her career, her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her family. Raising her five daughters was the center of her world and the achievement she cherished most. She gave her children strength, guidance, and encouragement, creating a home filled with warmth, learning, and laughter. She celebrated every milestone, big or small, offered comfort through every challenge, and taught by example the importance of loving wholeheartedly. The closeness of her family stands as a lasting reflection of the life she built and nurtured with such care.
To honor Michele’s memory, stop and admire the sunrise, listen to your favorite music, buy a new plant, eat a vegan meal, and tell those close to you how much you love them.
