Nathan Schlenker Obituary

The family of Nathan Wallace Schlenker is saddened to announce his passing on Friday May 13, 2022, at his home in Gloversville NY due to complications from cancer.  He was 83 years’ old.

Nat was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1938 to Samuel and Clara (nee Strum) Schlenker.  The eldest of three children to Sam and Clara, he attended Brooklyn College where he graduated with a degree in Science and Accounting in 1961.  At Brooklyn College he met Nancy Kessler, who he married and with whom he later had four children, Howard, Ira, Steven and Leslie.  Later in life he and Nancy parted ways and he remarried Barbara Baron and also had a 4-decade loving relationship with Deborah Rose.

Nat moved to Gloversville in the 1960’s where he became partner at the accounting firm of Eckstein, Eckstein, Schlenker, Cichy, Lutz & Zeronda, whose largest client was Feuer Leather Corporation.  Later Nathan left his firm to become CFO of Feuer Leather, where he remained for almost a decade.  Later in life, he became CFO of Atlantic Express in Statin Island for almost 20 years, and following his departure from Atlantic Express became Chief Financial Advisor to Consolidate Bus Corporation in Brooklyn NY.

Nat loved his work, which sustained his sharp intellect right through his final days. He maintained a primary residence in Gloversville where he was a passionate gardener, enjoyed golfing and lake fishing, and shared many a fine meal and elegant wine with his good friends. He was an avid collector of American art and loved travelling and spending time with his family. He was also a voracious reader, could recite dozens of poems by heart, and attended musical theatre whenever possible. And he loved dogs, and was loved by them, particularly the Newfoundlands he and Debbie bred for decades and his beloved Bull Mastiff, Willy.

Nat is survived by his two loving partners Debbie and Barbara, by his brother and sister Kenny and Eileen, his four children, eight grandchildren, nieces, nephews and the hundreds of friends, business partners and admirers who loved him and miss him dearly.

In the words of Frank Sinatra, “I did it my way.”   In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Knesseth Israel Synagogue  in Gloversville, New York,  where he maintained a membership for 6 decades.
