Obituary

Paula Winig, 82, a lifelong resident of Albany, passed away peacefully with family at her side on March 20th at Daughters of Sarah. Paula was the youngest of three children of Shirley and Wiliam Winig.  Predeceased by them as well as her brother Stanley and her best friend and sister, Barbara (Dennis/Duke) Hurley, Paula’s friends and family became her primary focus, unless of course the Red Sox, Mets or Dodgers were playing.  She had extra time to do anything when the Yankees were playing!  Paula worked at KeyBank for many years and made close friendships, especially with Betty Wagner and her husband George who remained at her side throughout her illness.  Paula was very active in all aspects of her beloved Congregation Beth Emeth and could be counted on to help anyone who seemed in need of a laugh, her sense of humor remained as sharp as ever.  Paula’s cousin Rochelle (Paul) Riven always had a seat at the table for Paula and led to the close relationship between Paula and Rochelle’s children.  Jonathan Riven and his wife, Francesca Sidoti and their daughter JoAnna were always there to listen and laugh and will miss her very much.   Melissa Riven Mirabile who was responsible for Paula’s care (and her children Casey and Jesse) was chosen by Paula because of their special bond and deep appreciation and trust of each other.  It was an honor Melissa worked hard to live up to.

Paula is survived by a number of other cousins and friends who are too numerous to name.  The family would like to express their profound appreciation and respect for the amazing caregivers at Daughters of Sarah MEU who cared for her throughout her residency.  Those who would like to remember Paula in a special way may make donations to Daughters of Sarah for their amazing work, Congregation Beth Emeth, or The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in recognition of Paula’s love for cats.

Services will be held at the Beth Emeth Cemetery on Turner Lane in Loudonville, New York on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at 9:00am.
