http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlXdU6bEAn0 Pauline Schwartz, née Weil, died peacefully at Ellis Hospital on Sunday May 30, a week after her 88th birthday.
She is mourned by her daughter, Judith (Tony Eprile), of Bennington, VT, son, Frederic (Carin), of Vingåker, Sweden, who were with her at her passing. She is also mourned by her grandsons Julius, Brendan, and Benjamin. She was married to the late Alvin D. Schwartz, M.D. with whom she shared sixty years of devotion.
Born in New York City, she attended Oakwood School and Vassar College and was a field hockey star at both. Polly, as she was known, was a pianist and flautist active in many local music study groups. She liked good wine, soft ice cream, and animals of all kinds, with a soft spot for cats and elephants. Never quite 5 feet tall, she embraced Shakespeare's words ”And, though she be but little, she is fierce.” She had a sense of humor and sharp wit that few who knew her ever forgot, matched by a warmth and generosity that left few untouched.
Her family are especially grateful for the kind and attentive care she received from her caregivers at Home Instead and Ellis Hospital.
The funeral will take place on Tuesday June 1st at 2.00 p.m. in the Agudat Achim Cemetery on Schermerhorn Street in Rotterdam. As for giving in Polly’s honor, donations to Agudat Achim are especially welcome, as are contributions to any charity or effort that to you reflects her spirit and values.
