ALBANY – Phyllis Kott Levy lived a full life and passed peacefully in her sleep on August 2, 2023.
Born in the Bronx, Phyllis was a proud alumna of Bronx High School of Science, Union University School of Nursing, and The College of St. Rose.
She met Joel on a blind date and he proposed on the second one. They married in the summer of 1956 and made their home in Albany.
Phyllis loved laughing and making others laugh with her. Through mah jongg, bridge and tennis as well as her 40 year career as an RN, she amassed a huge cadre of friends.
She loved traveling to destinations near and far from summer theatre in Williamstown and boating on Lake George to Williamsburg, VA, Canada, Ireland and walking the Great Wall of China. She loved going to the movies, reading books and following Rachel Maddow, Jon Stewart and Jeopardy.
Survivors include her loving husband, Joel, of Albany, daughter Joanne (Barry) Citrin of Rye Brook, NY, son Daniel (Debra) Levy, of Delmar, granddaughters Leah (Brian) Citrin-Nelson, of White Plains, NY, Abby (Jay) Cortrin, of Chicago, IL, grandsons Joshua and Eric Levy, of Albany, great granddaughters Eliana and Maya Citrin-Nelson, a sister Nancy Kornell, of Granada Hills, CA, many nieces and nephews, and her loyal Havanese, Dulcinea.
Phyllis wanted friends and family to celebrate her life wearing smiles rather than frowns. To that end, an ice cream memorial service is planned for Sunday, August 13th at 11:00 am at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue in Albany.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Cerf J. Levy Memorial Fund c/o Congregation Beth Emeth, the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.
