Phyllis Zena (Tresser) Shapiro, 68 of Glenmont, NY died peacefully on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at her home, lovingly surrounded by her children, Jen and David (Julia). Born September 16, 1952 in Brooklyn, NY, Phyllis graduated from Montclair State University, where she met her late husband, Bernard Shapiro in her Freshman year. They married in 1974. Phyllis was a resident of Glenmont, NY for thirty-three years. She was a member of Temple Israel and Congregation Beth Emeth. The greatest joy in Phyllis’ life was to spend time with her family and friends. She loved to travel, read, go to theater, out to lunch, and shop. Throughout her life, she never let anything hold her back and handled life’s adversities with strength and resilience. Phyllis volunteered for a plethora of organizations and served as a lifelong board member for the Albany Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She also volunteered for two organizations that were close to her heart: the American Cancer Society’s Reach for Recovery program and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Phyllis was the beloved daughter of Gertrude Tresser, beloved mother of Jennifer Shapiro Lee and David (Julia) Shapiro. She was the beloved grandmother of Isabella and Jonathan Lee. She is the sister of Alan (Andrea) Tresser and Claire (Bill) Tanzer.
Services at the Temple Israel Cemetery, 1626 Western Avenue in Guilderland, New York on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at 11:00am All are inviited to attend,.Masks will be required
