Peabody, MA – Phyllis O. Silverman, 93, passed away at her residence on September 23, 2023. Born in New York, NY she is the daughter of the late Jacob and Rose (Kaufman) Olshin. Phyllis is the wife of the late Rabbi Martin I. Silverman.
Phyllis graduated from New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn in 1948 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts from Brooklyn College in 1951. During her career, Phyllis worked as a first grade teacher and reading specialist.
Phyllis loved being surrounded by her family, whether it was traveling to favorite vacation destinations or celebrating life events, family was everything to her.
Phyllis was a life-long learner, enjoyed the opera and volunteered her time and talents with many organizations through the years including; being a member of Hadassah, she was also a former Sisterhood president of Congregation Beth Emeth and was involved with many interfaith activities when living in Albany. Phyllis was also a member of Congregation Beth Emeth in Albany, NY and Central Synagogue in New York City.
Phyllis is survived by her children; Sara (Audrey Valenciano) Silverman, Amy (Paul) Cohen, Ethan (Erica) Silverman, her grandchildren; Alyssa and Enx Dadulas, Jason and Melissa Cohen, Windsor Flynn and John Groshong and Chris Flynn; her great-grandchildren: Oliver, Reese, Julian, Benjamin, Lucas & Olena. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis was predeceased by her siblings; Anita Rothfeld, Beulah Epstein, Nathan Olshin.

Funeral services for Phyllis will be held on Wednesday September 27th at 12:00 pm at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Rd. in Albany. Burial will follow at Beth Emeth Cemetery, 58 Turner Lane in Colonie.
The family will be receiving guests back at Congregation Beth Emeth at 5:00 pm with a Shiva Service to commence at 6:00 pm in the chapel.
